Surah Hud Ayat 29 Tafseer

Para 12 - وَ مَا مِنْ دَآبَّةٍ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

11.29

وَ یٰقَوْمِ لَاۤ اَسْــٴَـلُكُمْ عَلَیْهِ مَالًاؕ-اِنْ اَجْرِیَ اِلَّا عَلَى اللّٰهِ وَ مَاۤ اَنَا بِطَارِدِ الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْاؕ-اِنَّهُمْ مُّلٰقُوْا رَبِّهِمْ وَ لٰـكِنِّیْۤ اَرٰىكُمْ قَوْمًا تَجْهَلُوْنَ(29)

English translation of Kanz-ul-Imaan

'And O people! I do not ask any wealth from you for it (i.e. propagation); my reward is only upon Allah, and I am not to drive away the Muslims; indeed, they are going to meet their Lord, but I find you to be totally ignorant people.'

Commentary

The nation demanded for the poor Muslims to be removed from the gathering and so Prophet Nūḥ

عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم responded to them in this way. This highlights the fact that treating poor Muslims with contempt is the way of the disbelievers; here, there is a lesson for those among the affluent community in our era who look down upon scholars from humble backgrounds, students of sacred knowledge, and Islamic preachers, often trying to impose themselves upon them, and even when giving charity, forcing them to make multiple visits, frowning when giving, and considering the recipients to be their servants. Spiritual guides, scholars and orators should also learn from the response of the Prophet Nūḥ عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم; giving preference to the rich and visiting their homes to appease them while neglecting the poor, despite their numerous requests, does not befit the honour of religious personalities.
